It is no secret that friendships between men and women can be tricky. Sometimes, it’s hard to tell if a man and woman are just friends or if one harbors feelings for the other. In many cases, it turns out that the man is only pretending to be the woman’s friend to get closer to her. If you’re worried that your friendship with a man might be based on deception, here are ten signs to look out for!

1. Gifts.
A man interested only in impressing you with his large and generous gifts is not a true friend. A true friend will give modest gifts. Those for which he has funds. He will try to impress you spiritually, not materially.
2. Purchases.
If a man is happy to walk with you in shopping malls and agrees with everything you say, he’s not being friendly – he’s just trying to get on your good side.
A good friend should act like a true friend. He can handle only so much of the store before he needs to go outside and breathe fresh air. It is common for buddies to refrain from demanding total self-denial because it is expected that friends respect one another’s hobbies and will not force them to give up everything.
3. Assistance.
It might not mean much if a man is always willing and able to help with anything, day or night. But it’s significant if he’s saved you six times in the last month, three of those times in the middle of the night. A man who values you as only a friend wouldn’t devote so much time to helping you – especially when he has his own woman to think about. He knows you’re drunk and sad, but you can get home alone.
4. Discussion of men.
The main distinction between someone who is not a true friend and a “fraudster” is that the latter always takes your side. They will always consent and tell you that “he’s just not worth it.” It is an intelligent way of thinking–let everyone else be wrong, only he’s good, and eventually, you’ll notice and appreciate it. A true friend would want you to be happy, even if it means being happy with someone else. So he will only give honest feedback.
5. Apology.
Everyone makes mistakes now and again – they’re late for a meeting, forget to bring what they promised, or say something hurtful without meaning to. The difference lies in how people react to their own mistakes. Someone who sees themselves as an “impostor” will rush to make amends as if their entire future depends on it. They are afraid that one mistake will cause you to lose all trust in them and ruin communication entirely. Therefore, they fear making any mistake, no matter how small. A true friend knows that everyone is human and makes mistakes sometimes. They will apologize discreetly when necessary but know when not to worry about an error that doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things.

6. Drunk.
It’s easy to spot a disingenuous friend when you’re both at the bar. They’ll sweet talk, try to kiss, and take advantage of your drunken state. Meanwhile, a true friend will listen to your stories and engage in discussions about topics that interest both of you. They’ll ensure you get home safely and tuck you into bed – not take advantage of you.
7. Attention.
I’m sure you’ve experienced this yourself. When you’re around, the “scoundrel” pays all of his attention to you. From start to finish, you’re in the spotlight. Should I bring a beverage? You look fantastic, by the way! By the way, did you notice that picture? A true friend will ensure that the attention is equal: for you and him. He will also want to hear advice from you, an opinion. Therefore, he will not pay attention only to you!
8. Women.
A genuine buddy would be interested in the idea of “You should meet Helen!” (If he’s free, that is). The “impostor” rejects all offers – gently or harshly, but always conclusively. If this is how he behaves with other women, there’s no reason to think you’re an exception.
A man, your friend, will be interested in meeting the other influential women in your life – your mom, sister, best friend, etc. He’ll want to get to know them and form relationships with them. An impostor will drag this moment out until the end. He does not think that he is ready for this step.
9. Communication.
A real friend communicates with you as a genuine companion, not nose-to-nose but remotely (messengers). It is because he has other interests to which he assigns some attention. The primary preoccupation of the “swindler” is YOU. As a result, he is prepared to devote as much time to you as possible. And so he makes as many appointments as possible for you to make contact.
10. Sex.
The “deceiver” wants to have sex with you, but he’s afraid you’ll figure it out. Therefore, in every way, he is not interested in you as a woman but as a person. A real friend remembers that you are a woman and, in principle, allows sex between you, but “in some special case.” He is primarily interested in you as a human being.
If you’ve been questioning whether your friend is genuine, these ten points should help clear things up. Life’s too short to waste time on people who don’t care about you. Keep an eye out for these signs, and you’ll be able to spot a fake friend from a mile away.
