Life is full of surprises. Something comes to knock you off your feet when you think everything is all figured out. That’s what happened to the husband in this story. His wife was diagnosed with a skin disease that made her look ugly. He loved her for her good heart, not her beautiful face. So he devised a way to save her happiness and their love.

The husband began to pretend that he was losing his sight, that he was blind so that his wife would not think he mistreated her. So she would not know that he sees her disfigured face. They lived like this for a few more years until she died.
One day, the man’s neighbor asked:
— How do you cope alone, without your wife? You are blind…
— Man, my eyes are fine. I was pretending to be blind. If she knew I could see her horror face, it would hurt her much more than the disease. She was a good wife. I just wanted to keep her happy.
It is better to overlook the faults of others and pretend that we do not see them. We all have our flaws, and nobody is perfect.
Moral: Sometimes, we are better off pretending to be blind and overlooking the faults of others. No matter how much your teeth bite your tongue, they stay together in your mouth. It is the spirit of forgiveness.
Even if the eyes are not destined to see each other, they look at the world together, cry together, and blink together. It is unity.
Remember this the next time you are tempted to judge someone for their flaws. Instead, focus on their excellent qualities. You may be surprised at how much you have in common with them.
What do you think? Do you agree with the moral of this story? Why or why not?
